Jo Nash Shiraz 2018

Jo Nash Shiraz 2018
Smooth, complex and elegant, this medium bodied, cool climate red opens with stunning aromas of ripe sweet berries coupled with a floral, violet perfume and smoky, chocolate suggestions. Harmoniously balanced with brooding fruits and carefully integrated French oak, this wine offers intense blackberries and dark plums with a lingering spicy finish. Possessing an eternal palate of richness and spice, it is irresistible now, and will richly reward those who offer it time.

Viticulturist Notes
Fruit was harvested from 15 year old vines in an exceptional vineyard site on top of the Strathbogie Ranges on the 30th March 2018. The vineyards are situated on granitic sand and rock, which give the wine notable terroir. Tonnages were kept low, (approximately 1.5 tonnes/acre) to allow for maximum quality and flavour. The must was placed in small open pot fermenters and allowed to ferment naturally. I then hand plunged the pots every 8 hours for the duration of the ferment. Once the ferment was dry, the resulting wine was pressed off the skins and given time to settle before allowing a natural secondary fermentation to commence. Separate parcels of the wine spent 12 months in French oak puncheons, after which the final blending of select parcels took place.
Wine Harvest Notes
Another season by the joys and challenges that Mother Nature continually throws our way! 2018 is a very good year for quality, the season was warm and dry and we were kept on our toes as once we started picking everything ripened up pretty quickly. Intense flavours came in late this year and we held off picking to allow maximum flavour. The whites are all fruit forward, with lovely fresh acidity whilst the reds have excellent colour and flavour to match. This vintage is a beauty and subsequently we have made some cracking wines in 2018.
Food Recommendations
This Shiraz is a wonderful partner to char grilled steak, rich red meat dishes and hearty pastas. Its wide appeal makes it a perfect dinner party wine with your nearest and dearest.
